Considering this unique features which Bhutan is advantaged with, The Bhutan Alpine Seed (BAS) was established in 2000, as the first registered private seed production entity in Bhutan. The firm is also a fruition of the proprietor’s long association and passion fro agriculture input development in the Kingdom. Located in the picturesque Paro valley in western Bhutan, BAS has built a strong network of contract seed growers all over Bhutan. While the hybrid production is being carried out in Paro itself, under the close supervision of qualified BAS staff, the non-hybrid varieties are supplied by the country, providing them a vital source of much needed cash income. Apart from catering to the needs of the domestic market, BAS undertakes contract production of high quality vegetables seeds for seed companies overseas. The varieties produced for export include hybrid cabbage, bunching onion, beans, radish and Chinese mustard. The prospect to grow and market various other varieties of seeds in the international market is immensely promising.
