Thuktro

The Trademark

THUKTRO logo is a Bhutanese textile pattern of the endless knot, which represents the interdependent human connectivity and relations at the heart of our enterprise. The endless knot is one of the 8 lucky symbols in Buddhist iconography.

Blue at the center represents the infinite space depicting freedom and openness to embrace, inspire and impact change. Yellow and Orange on the two sides portray the national flag of Bhutan flying high and free in the sky.

The trademark is a visual expression of THUKTRO's diligence and dedication to serve the country and people.

THUKTRO (Thuk: heart, Tro: entertain) is a Bhutanese term, which means entertain the heart.

"You can't buy happiness. But you can buy bags. And that is kind of the same thing," a bag-lover tweeted. A global survey found out that 22% women would be instantly happy if they could spend lavishly on their bag of choice. Bag has become a lifestyle accessory since its first use in the 14th century. In Bhutan, however, the indigenous accessory survives only as a personal memory.

Pema Tshering was born and brought up in Tshangkha, Trongsa, the heartland of Bhutanese history and culture. Growing up as an independent and well-groomed Bhutanese with taste for indigenous textile and bags, he moved from a self-sufficient community into a globalized capital city Thimphu.

He learnt everything was mass-produced to satiate mass consumption in the new home. Consumer appetite is ever growing in the bustling city of office-goers, students and expanding business community. Deep inside, he felt concerned about his country's threatened culture and crafts.

Promoting textile culture has always been at his heart as an actor, producer and filmmaker for 24-years now. This 50-year old veteran storyteller reinvented himself as a premium Bhutanese bag designer to give a new life to the textile craft. He started THUKTRO Premium Bhutanese Bags (TPBB) in 2019 to suit changing times and tastes. TPBB seamlessly blends the best of technology, tradition and human creativity.

THUKTRO is a socio-economic entrepreneur at heart, promoting and supporting local artisans across the country. The premium bags are fairly priced to reach out to the low and middle-income population, making it an affordable luxury and gift item for both locals and tourists.

For the past 2 years and years to come, TPBB remains committed to produce 'Premium Bhutanese Bags' while reassuring the best of quality, craftsmanship and value for money.

TPBB has plans to launch chain stores in Bhutan for easy

accessibility, immersive shopping experience and inspire

future generation of entrepreneurs.

Moving forward, the design enterprise is building a competent and complete production team to venture into crafting artisanal textile bags to cater to international market.
